TAKE CARE OF YOUR GUMS, TAKE CARE OF YOUR MOUTH
Periodontics
We often have bleeding or inflammation in the gums without really knowing why.
With periodontics we treat these cases where patients suffer from gum pathologies such as gingivitis or periodontitis, diseases caused by the accumulation of bacteria in the teeth.

Why should we take care of our gums?
Although we often don’t give it the importance it deserves, bleeding gums or inflammation is usually a cause for alarm.
We can catch gingivitis in time and remedy it through dental prophylaxis. Failure to do so can lead to periodontitis, a more dangerous disease that can cause tooth loss and requires another, more expensive and advanced treatment.

How to detect this disease?
If you have one of the following symptoms, you have a high chance of suffering from gingivitis or periodontitis.

Bleeding
One of the first symptoms to appear is bleeding gums. It usually appears during brushing or eating.

Sensitivity
One of the first symptoms is usually sensitivity. It is especially noticeable when brushing.

Inflamation
The inflammation appears in one of the first phases and usually enlarges the gums causing them to invade part of the tooth.

Redness
If your gums take on a redder and brighter color it is not a sign of health. On the contrary, it is a symptom of gingivitis.

Retracted gums
At the moment we are already suffering from a symptom of advanced periodontitis where the root of the tooth is already beginning to be seen.

Bad smell or taste
Bad breath is not the clearest symptom, as it can be due to another disease. But it can be one of the symptoms of pyorrhea.
Do you have any of the symptoms?
If you have any of the symptoms mentioned above and they are mild, there is still time to remedy them.
In most cases of gingivitis, conscientious oral cleaning and good daily oral hygiene is sufficient to deal with it.
Although there are occasions where we will need a more advanced treatment or other treatments.
Phases of the treatment
01

Diagnosis
To determine whether we are dealing with periodontal disease or gingivitis, we perform an X-ray and a probing test. This will tell us if there is bleeding, the depth of the cavity in the gums and if there is bone loss.
02

Treatment for gingivitis
If gingivitis is diagnosed, the process will be simpler. We will quote you for an oral cleaning and create hygiene guidelines at home. We will determine if a gum scraping is needed, although in the initial phase it is usually not necessary.
02

Treatment for periodontitis
If you need treatment for periodontitis, we will carry out different tests: microbiological analysis, antibiotics to eliminate bacteria, measurements of the depth of caries in our gums, a root scraping and smoothing, etc.
03

Follow up
Our periodontitis treatment includes follow-up to prevent relapse of the disease. If we see symptoms again, we would perform the relevant tests again every 8 or 10 months.
